ABOUT THE ROLE A public sector owned utility business is looking for a network administrator to join them ASAP for a hybrid role based in Brisbane. They're bringing someone in for a 12-month FTC and you would be 3 days in the office, 2 at home. Additionally, there is occasional travel to regional Queensland locations. You will get to have a role that has a major impact on all Queenslanders safety in this role.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES - Lead ongoing maintenance and monitoring of network infrastructure across Queensland, including switches, routers, firewalls, and other network devices.
- Participate in high level network architecture design planning workshops for network upgrade projects and be able to provide expert advice and input into the architecture of the network.
- Partner with other business units to ensure seamless integration of network infrastructure with operational technology systems.
- Manage vendor relationships for network support agreements with managed service providers in line with contractual expectations.
- Review, create and maintain architectural documentation of the network assets.
- Visit remote assets across Queensland on a frequent basis (approximately 7-10 business days per quarter) to perform installation and maintenance of network hardware.
- Manage relevant tickets in a timely fashion within ITSM platform.
- Troubleshoot network issues and perform root cause analysis to identify and resolve problems.
- Install, configure, and upgrade network hardware across assets.
- Provide training and technical support for users with varying levels of IT knowledge and competence.
- Lifecycle management of network devices and other related assets.
- Comply with HSE management procedures at all times
TECHNICAL SKILLS Demonstrated technical skills in:
- Knowledge of application transport and network infrastructure protocols
- Ability to create accurate network architecture diagrams and documentation for design and planning network communication systems
- Learning new or unfamiliar technology and products using documentation and internet resources
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated knowledge of Palo Alto Next Gen Firewall Configuration and Management
- Network monitoring and management tools and incident management processes (ITIL)
- Knowledge in supporting a private Cellular APN
- Understanding of contemporary security standards and frameworks in a network context like NIST, ISO27001, PSPF. ISM etc
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Mandatory - Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience and training
- 5 + years’ experience in network administration, with proven experience with Palo Alto NGFW and Cisco Meraki
- Demonstrated experience in implementing, administering, and troubleshooting network infrastructure devices in a complex WAN environment across segmented ICT and Operational Technology networks
- Cloud computing connectivity experience (Azure and Express Route)
- Cisco Meraki Configuration and Management Experience
- Relevant industry certification (e.g., PCNSE, PCNSA, PCSFE, CMSS, CCNA, CCNP, Network+)
- Experience with network technologies such as Routers, Switches, Access Points, SD-WAN, NGFW, Proxy/Web Filtering, VPN, NAC, 802.1x
- Open Class Drivers License (Unrestricted)
Desirable - Exposure to segregated Operational Technology networks
- Experience supporting F5 appliances and Cisco Nexus Switching
- Experience with leaky feeder network support (eg mine site or confined space)
- Exposure with Cloud platform networking administration in Microsoft Azure
